Alliances: creating them and maintaining them

Since I worked my first retail job, I have found that my knack for networking (and relationships) far surpasses my actual knack for direct sales; furthering my point that sales are more relationship focused than anything. With the relationships comes alliances and loyalty; again, something that takes time to really develop strategically. While some people are focused on the in-and-out impulse buyers, others rather develop a long-term bond and keep in contact.

As I get into my late 20′s I am finding that a majority of my relationships are opening doors for me, that would generally be locked down with a deadbolt to anyone else; most specifically when it comes to gaining access to mobile phones. As the mobile boom happens, many of my colleagues are recognizing the niche market and launching start-ups focused on mobile development and approaching me to help them allocate devices for testing – all while knowing full well I have a hard time saying no. Being said, I’ve started to feel rather used; getting approached when needed, ignored when not. It’s a tough pill to swallow when you’ve had long standing relationships go down the drain over such petty things. But looking at it, how good was the relationship if it went down so easily?

Now, when I’m at a huge turning point in my professional career, I find myself looking to be second guessing how strong some are against others. Do i scorn such colleagues for not meeting my expectations? Or do i simply make myself less available when they need me? Then the whole “two wrongs don’t make a right” scenerio comes into play….

oye, another life’s lesson I must figure out on my own.

The Universe Guides Us Always.

Firstly, thank you Who-s-the-man, my dear friend Anna, for snapping me out of my winter misery and lack of inspiration and motivation. I needed that more than you know. Secondly, thank you, Universe, for always doing that for me: snapping me out of negativity with signs, dreams, conversations, books, radio interviews, and everything else possible! These signs and things are becoming more and more evident to me as time goes on.( I read of them in Paolo Coelho’s  Alchemist.  He referred to this phenomena  as Guidance from the Soul of the Universe or receiving Omens.) Now at almost 30 i still don’t always know where I’m headed. However, I trust that if only I properly receive all that is in store for me, the life-long journey is going to  be the ultimate joy.

Can’t stop watching this video over and over! I admit, I am easily impressed with babies and beautiful surroundings Angel. But this one speaks to me on some undefined level of consciousness. It says  ”ART is not unreachable and is waiting to be born all around us”. We all have an artist within us.

Rewiring Our Brain.

A person close to me told me of a quote that goes something like “Mind is an entity of its own. It can make heaven out of hell and hell out of heaven”. I decided to test it out…just in everyday life. Mornings are my guaranteed grumpy times. Everything just seems irritating and boring when I first get up. A couple of mornings ago I got up and purposely put myself in the good mood: thought of everything I’m grateful for, enjoyed the first view of the winter backyard, didn’t rush to get ready and carefully thought out how my day was going to. And Boom! It worked!
As per the latest brain science discoveries, the brain appears to be prone to creating habitual paths as reactions to certain situation (i.e.  triggers).Having that bad time with anything in general is only ONE of the possible reactions to the situation-trigger, of course. There are other possibilities of these reactions that can be more “bad” or negative or less “bad”…or even positive! However, the problem is that once that negative brain activity path thing has been established and used multiple times, it becomes a habit. Can we ever break out of it? The trick is to realize when the brain is about to fall into the same old path of negativity and attempt to switch the habitual trail of thought into a happier direction. It’s a lot of work but is well worth the time and efforts. The reward is immediate.

Collective Consciousness

I not so long ago heard of Universal Collective Consciousness. THen i read something of Deepak Chopra on the same subject.Ever since the collective consciousness is all in my face!Or so it seems..:)People bring it up in conversations.A friend reminded me of the historical fact that some of the ground- breaking inventions got invented simultaneously by 2 or more separate inventors in different parts of the globe. Then i heard of a theory that the Evolution is bringing us (the humans) to the next step which will transform us into more of spiritual beings. I started to think of yoga and meditation, the new-found powers of the mind, quantum physics and everything else New Age about Us today. Its all over the World…Now. That right there is evidence of reality of Collective Consciousness, Us being One. How FUN:)
P.S.: to prove my point even further here is the first video that pops up on youtube under”collective Consciousness”:\"collective consciousness\"

Hot Yoga is Just Wrong!

So i was really excited to try Hot Yoga. I was even more excited to see visible results pretty much after 2 sessions! i thought it was incredible although a friend warned me that i should research it. So here is  a super helpful article that made all the sense to me:

Hot Yoga, An oxymoron.

I remember that when I first heard about “hot yoga” I was baffled. Having already been deeply immersed in the yoga practice for a number of years, I quizzed the practitioners of this new “yoga” trend about the reasons for the torturous conditions. The common reply was: “to imitate the heat in India, the birthplace of yoga”.

Like most people who received training in the traditional classic hatha yoga, I was warned by my teachers never to practice yoga in the heat and instead, to always do it in an environment comfortable for the body. They advised that if you happen to live in a hot climate, you should practice yoga either early morning or after sunset.

Observe cultures living in hot climates, including India, and you will find that not only do they not exercise in the midst of the heat, they actually do relatively nothing. They try not to move at all. In other words they practice the art of siesta. Why? When the environment gets hot it raises the temperature in the body. The primary concern, and survival instinct, of the body is to maintain a very consistent temperature within the vital organs at all times. This way the internal organs won’t get too cold or overheat. Clearly this is why, according to research in Neuroscience, the brain devotes most of its grey matter to the regulation of the body’s temperature; homeostasis.

It takes tremendous energy to lower the body temperature and keep it balanced. Exercising requires a great deal of energy from the body. Doing exercises in the heat puts the body, and all its systems and organs, under great stress. Would you ever do vigorous exercises when you have a fever? This is the sole reason why we prescribe rest during an illness; particularly one involving a higher than normal body temperature. You need to conserve energy so that the body can bring the system back to equilibrium as quickly as possible.

Most of the time people harm themselves not because they are stupid, but because they are ignorant. Often, in the modern trendy yoga reality, not only do you not get the right education, you often get the wrong information. When students trust teachers who deliver false information it can get messy and downright harmful.

Many people who are hot yoga survivors report that as a result of their yoga practice they suffered from nausea and vomiting during or after classes, headaches and lightheadedness, fatigue, exhaustion, as well as feeling edgy and restless. Upon being asked why they continued despite these symptoms they all gave the same answer, “we were told by the teacher that we are having a ‘healing crisis’”. So that we all understand, a healing crisis may last for 24 to 48 hours, not 6 to 12 months. When you experience such significant symptoms after exercising it means you are going against the clear messages of your body. You are abusing yourself, and you are definitely not tuning in.

It took me years of living both in the Eastern and Western cultures to understand how the western mind has twisted the reality paradigm to only feel “alive” when it is accompanied by struggle. The mantra of ‘no-pain-no-gain’ is so pervasive that we’ve started to manifest it throughout our lives. ‘Love is hard and then you die’. ‘Just grin and bear it’. ‘Relationships are hard work’. From our parents indoctrinations of the above concepts, to messages from our friends, coworkers, religious sermons and particularly the evening news, the concept of life being tough is inescapable. Is it any wonder why manifesting your dreams is hard and aging is such a scary thing? Is it any wonder why depression is the most prevalent of health problems in the western world and antidepressants may soon be replacing fluoride as a tap water additive?

The Eastern spiritual goal of Living with Ease is one of hardest concepts for Westerners to take, having been raised with so many hard life concepts.

Unlike modern trendy yoga which emphasizes creating beautiful bodies, the aim of classical yoga is to remove suffering from our existence and discover who we are beyond the physical aspects of our body.

Instead of changing the true aim and methodology of yoga practice to suit our unhealthy philosophies we should have the humility and curiosity to adapt ourselves to what has worked for thousands of years, freeing our minds and bodies and living (IN) with ease.

According to Sri Bhagavan Patanjali, the author of the classic “Eight limbs of Yoga”, considered the father of the principles of the yoga practice, asana literally means a “posture that brings steadiness and comfort“.

Do not confuse the practice of hatha yoga with a sport or a workout. If you do:

  • Yoga will pump your ego along with your body.
  • In your practice you will develop a sense of competition with others and with yourself.
  • You will become rigid and fanatic about the form of your practice.
  • You may injure your body and drain your prana – the life force within you.
  • You may become addicted to your practice as it will satisfy your senses like any other stimulant.
  • Your practice will become an external performance not an inner journey.
  • You will become fascinated by your physical abilities and identify even more as your body; sowing the seeds of discontentment and fear at the prospect of aging.
  • You will fall into the illusion that you are on the spiritual path.

In addition, doing hot “yoga” makes you dependent on high end facilities for your practice and takes away your freedom from practicing asanas anytime and anywhere.

Your indicators for the practice in the true spirit of yoga:

Practice in the presence of flowing fresh air to avoid inhaling the carbon dioxide (yours and that of others).

Dress modestly while practicing with others to calm the senses and experience the self which exists beyond your appearance.

Move slowly to still the restless mind. Maintain stillness within each asana creating a moment of meditation.

Avoid any pain. Pain is a signal from the central nervous system that harm is being done to your body.

Pain depletes the energy in the body. Comfort and stillness increase the energy. Immediately modify the asana if it creates pain.

If you hear yourself panting like a dog during your practice you are not in the meditative (awareness) state which is the ultimate aim of the practice. Your brainwaves correlate directly to the rate of your breathing. Your breathing should be steady and calm at all times.

Let your energy move you safely to where you should be in the asana in each given moment. Move beyond your ambitious mind.

There is nowhere to go and nothing to gain as you are already there.

Can you see it?
Are you being it?

Namaste

To sum it up NO MORE hot yoga for me!!

The woman who wrote this is truly amazing ( not to mention a spiritual guru) and has awesome inspiring writings you can find at http://www.pranayogacollege.com/writings.

Enjoy!

Is After Life Real?

Here I go again looking for signs from above and beyond  to find the answer whether after life exists. Of course,  a death of a close person is often the trigger for such quest and in my case it is no different. The scenario is not most tragic. My 65-year-old Uncle suddenly died in his sleep although perceived as a healthy, happy, even glowing recently retired man. His family was of course devastated and I felt I had to provide the right kind of support. Luckily i had read a wonderful book by then called Farther Shores: Exploring How Near-Death, Kundalini and Mystical Experiences Can Transform Ordinary Lives by Yvonne Kason. I quickly recalled from the text that not only spiritualists but also the scientific community started to acknowledge Near Death Experiences as facts and not products of our imagination. In other words the floating over the physical body, the white tunnel, the light, the all encompassing feeling of unity with God and complete bliss are all  real. I made sure to bring up some of the most memorable case studies used by Y. Kason to my Aunt and they seemed to make a difference. After the first night she managed to get some sleep she said she dreamt of him telling her that she should not be scared because he is doing fine where he is. Days later a few close people gathered up for a cup of tee and it seemed each and every one of them had a similar story to share to do with those who passed…Dreams of them passing on important messages, small children seeing them around, other signs that cannot be ignored. Somehow the afterlife FEELS very real. Since there is no absolute knowledge i think I will settle for it.

How Mysticism Touched My Life.

I was about six at the time and living at my Grandmother’s house in a small town in Southern Russia. My Dad passed away when i was three and a half and although i wasn’t told anything about it at the time his death effected me majorly. I know this now looking back at that time. Mom said i became quiet, always serious, spent a lot of time alone and would just sit in the corner any chance i could get. I remember having a hard time falling a sleep, always feeling as if people-ghosts are wandering near our windows at night.

My Mom thought this could be what they call the “evil eye” since my Dad had numerous affairs going simultaneously prior to him passing… She had reasons to think that other women he had been involved with could have even used black magic. So my family remembered of this old lady (Babka) they knew for years who knew how to take the evil eye off. However there were no real means of getting a hold of her as she lived in a small village and had no phone.Next afternoon after the evening she was spoken of she literally came knocking on our door.

She performed the following ritual a number of times: a cup of cold water was held over my head as she read prayers asking for me to be healed. At the same time she would slowly pour melted wax from a church candle in the cold water until it formed a disk. At the end she would flip the disk and see how my spirit and body are doing by judging the shapes of the wax. The less poky the disk the better you were doing…On my 3rd or 4th session something unbelievable happened: the wax actually blew up while being poured over my head, covering  all of our surroundings, the ceiling and me!I bursted into tears, noone could believe their eyes. Babka seemed overwhelmed but assured us I would be back to normal from that point on and I was. Weird but cool!

I recently researched whether this ritual was at all common and found it originated in Ukraine. Moreover these Babki were and are amazingly powerful and gifted human beings! Here is where You find a scholar’s work on Babki:

To Smoke Or Not To Smoke Weed During Pregnancy.

I will start by saying that what is expressed here is nothing but an opinion. When I got pregnant and googled this question I found that the majority of answers were more or less split into two groups: those that put marijuana in the same category as cocaine, heroin, etc., and therefore screamed about its negative effects and those that said there is not enough research to know its actual effects. Not very satisfying I thought. I also came across an article from HIGH TIMES I believe in which a midwife explained that if you are one of the gals that ends up getting morning sickness and are considering taking medication for it than smoking little amounts of weed may just be healthier. Again opinion only but at least she was getting somewhere.

Recent studies show that marijuana IS medicinal and I wont get into it any further. We have to KNOW WHAT WE SMOKE however! The untreated, natural plant raised with no help of chemicals is ideal I think. I occasionally smoked weed up to three tokes or so at a time and it leveled me out when my hormones were throwing me against the wall. A friend of mine said ones “how harmful can this be if it makes mommy happy when she is down? “I thought this was true. I was reading a book at the time called the “Quantum Healing” by Deepak Chopra. He emphasized how important energy and positive thought are for our health. So I thought mind over matter. One can’t smoke weed and think what a damage she’s causing to her baby because then she probably is. Instead if you decide to do it, do not guilt yourself but may be imagine that you can connect with your baby better, speak to him about the upcoming birth-whatever works for you. I now have a happy, healthy one year old that is developing amazingly fast for her age. People often ask me if she ever cries because she is always smiling.  I’m not relating this to the fact that I smoked; neither do I want to influence anyone. At the end of it all You have to decide what is right for you.

What To Expect From 2012, “The End Of The World”.

About 6 months ago my mom sent me an email with the following link:2012. It’s an audio in Russian of Dr. Maslow on the subject of the common misconception today in regards to the end of the  world coming in 2012. If any of you are interested in his and some other members’ of the Russian scientific community opinion about what is going to happen in 2012 then read on:) Here is the bottom line: The frequency of the Earth’s vibration is increasing at an established rate . If it continues to increase in the same manner then by year 2012 the vibration  will reach a rate which will cause a gradual shift in our atmosphere. This shift is going to be so grand that it will inevitably affect humans. It will in a way be the end of the world as we know it. It’s effects, however are not  to be feared. A change they will bring are simply our next step in evolution as the human race. Dr. Maslow thinks our psyche will undergo a transformation. Many of us may develop new psychic abilities, such as foreseeing, healing with energy, even seeing other beings from parallel dimensions. He also says to go ahead and be excited because we are living in a time of change!:)So I’m going to welcome 2012 with a mind wide open!
